Are You A Victim Of “Computer Guy” Abuse?

Does your current computer guy fix things, then make fun of you? Does he tell you to “MOVE, I’ll fix it”? When you hang up, do you feel like a nitwit just because you asked for support THAT YOU PAY FOR?
If you are experiencing some of these difficulties, know you are not alone, AND it doesn’t have to be this way. Don’t let your existing “computer guy” hold leverage over you.
Is Nick Burns Your “Computer Guy”?

If you didn’t already know, the picture above is Nick Burns, “Your Company’s Computer Guy”. This was a Saturday Night Live skit with Jimmy Fallon as an over the top example of how poor the people skills can be in the IT industry. If you have never seen the skits, and you enjoy a good laugh, click here to watch them.
Sadly, in many cases, his portrayal is not far from the truth. Over the years, we have heard stories about “Computer Guys” that will send chills down your spine. We recently took a survey of clients asking them to share some of their worst IT experiences/stories and the results were shocking:
“We were made to feel like this issue could not possibly be happening.”
“He had a lack of compassion and patience with me which led to short answers and a condescending tone.”
“The use of abbreviations and jargon can make me feel like I don’t have any possible way of contributing to the conversation.”
“He acted as though we knew nothing.”
“The vendor became verbally abusive with the staff.”
“Before we have a meeting with other vendors we apologize in advance for the behavior of our IT guy.”
Enough Is Enough
If you are fortunate enough to have a “Computer Guy” or IT company that you trust, does a good job, respects you and your team, treats you fairly, and provides a high level of customer support, then you can stop reading here.
